PART REFERENCE: Slat

The slat is similar to a flap with the following entries:

chord = fraction of the airfoil chord
span = fraction of the airfoil surface span
sound = path to sound file

Slats are like leading edge flaps that increase the wing area on the leading edge of the wing.  They increase lift by increasing camber as well as wing area.  They deploy automatically, depending on the angle of attack of the wing.  They may not deploy symmetrically if the plane is not in coordinated flight.  In combat, a sudden change in the angle of attack could see the slats deploying very quickly, which could cause changes in trim.
