Targetware: Scenario Development
Scenario Designer User's Guide
Menus
The Scenario Designer menus offer access to various functions not available through the main window interface.
File Menu
The File Menu has no surprises; you can save the current scenario, open an existing one, start a new scenario, or quit. Note that only one scenario can be edited at one time.
Tools Menu
The Tools Menu gives you access to a variety of functions designed to help make the job of scenario creation easier.
Field Ownership
All fields and other locations can be designated as neutral, or they can be assigned to one of the teams in the scenario. Fields owned by a team will be included in the scenario as landing fields. Use this menu item to bring up a window for changing location ownership.
Select Map
Brings up a list of available fields; select one to change the map display. The list can be limited to only fields near to the current mission location; that setting is made in Preferences.
Get Targets from Library
Allows you to add a set of targets from the Target Library.
Add Targets to Library
Allows you to choose all or some of the targets in your mission, and add them to the Target Library for future use in other scenarios, or for sharing with other scenario engineers.
Navigation Mode
Switches the map mode to Navigation. In Navigation Mode, the map can be dragged around the screen with the mouse.
Import Mode
Switches the map mode to Import. Import mode lets you assign locations and headings to targets, locations, air units, and viewpoints by clicking and/or dragging with the mouse.
Zoom Mode
Switches the map mode to Zoom. Clicking on the map in Zoom Mode causes the map to be centered on whereever you click, and to zoom in one stage per click. Alt-Click (Option-Click on Mac) will zoom out.
Ruler Mode
Switches the map mode to Ruler. Click and drag on the map to measure the distance between any two points, in kilometers. A line will be drawn between the starting and ending point. Release the mouse button and click again to measure from a different spot.
Wizard Menu
The Wizard Menu lets you access the more powerful, automated functions of the Scenario Designer.
Add Aircraft to 1 Field
Use this wizard to add one or more aircraft to a field of your choice. Select the field from the dropdown menu, then select one or more aircraft from the list of all aircraft available in the current mod. The wizard will place all of the aircraft at spawn points on the selected field, with correct headings. If that level of information is not available from the mod's map pack, it will place the aicraft in the center of the field. A new mission will be added to the current team, containing all the aircraft selected for the airfield.
Add Aircraft + Targets to 1 or More Fields
This is the most powerful automation function in the Scenario Designer. If the mod pack you are using is set up correctly, you will be able to use this to build an entire scenario, with multiple fields, a wide variety of aircraft, and a full set of field targets, all with a few clicks of the mouse. You can optionally limit the aircraft available by setting a date (year/month) for the scenario to take place. See the tutorial section for details on using this wizard.
