MapMaker User's Guide
Information and Analysis.
MapMaker also allows you to gather some basic information about the landscape as you navigate and create the region for your terrain.
Global Position. At any time, the latitude and longitude of any point on the map can be determined simply by placing the mouse cursor over that point. The position of that point in North/South/East/West degrees are provided in the Status Bar located at the bottom of the Main Viewing Window.

Terrain Position. In addition to the latitude and longitude at any point, placing the mouse cursor over a point also will provide the location of that point in terrain coordinates (x,y). The values ata point are also provided in the Status bar located below the Main Viewing Window.

Note: These coordinates are only applicable if you make no other changes to the region settings. Also, they are only valid within the Output Window.
Info. Information about a particular location on the map can be obtained by use of the Info tool. This tool can be activated by selecting Tool -> Info from the menu bar.

Once activated you will be presented with a query pointer. Placing the query pointer of a position of interest and then hitting the left-mouse-button will bring up a window summarizing applicable information about that position.

Note: The amount of information available depends on what data sets are loaded and whether there is any information of that type applicable to that position. In the example above, the location selected is a farming area with both a road and railway passing through it.
Measure. Linear distance and heading information between two points can be gathered through the use of the Measure Tool (Tool -> Measure).

To make a measurement, click on one location and while holding the left-mouse-button, drag the cursor to the second position. A line connecting the start point to the position of the cursor will appear. In addition, a range circle will appear. The distance from the start point to any point on the range circle is the same at the distance along the range line. In the Status Bar, the current distance and heading from the start point to the cursor will appear. This data will update continuously until the left-mouse-button is released. Once the button is released, the distance and heading information will reflect the point where the cursor was located when the button was released.
