Targetware: Terrain Development
MapMaker User's Guide
What is the Targetware MapMaker?
MapMaker is a powerful software tool that greatly enhances your ability to create your own TargetWare custom terrain(s) based on real-world locations. Because MapMaker builds these terrains using elevation and land cover/usage data obtained by global satellites, you can be assured that these terrains are geographically accurate. Furthermore, since the tool has been written exclusively for the TargetWare series, it takes full advantage of the complete feature set provided in those products and also generates all necessary terrain files.
The purpose of this manual is to describe the many features of MapMaker and provide instruction on how to use the tool to create your own TargetWare terrain. For additional explanation and instruction on how to include these files within a TargetWare product, see the Terrain Development Guide.
Minimum System Requirements
- Systems: PC and Macintosh
- Operating Systems: PC: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. Mac: OSX
- Minimum 64 MB RAM (less than this is possible, but will result in large swap files and lower performance). More memory the better.
- Minimum ~800 MB free hard disk space. Data files are quite large. Actual amount will depend on the number of terrain data files you download and store.
If your system is near these minimum requirements, try the tool anyway. Very little testing has been done to establish the lower limit. However, owing to the large amount of data processing performed by this tool, much greater performance will obviously be realized with faster systems.
