MapMaker User's Guide

Navigating the Viewing Window

A variety of tools are available to help you as you navigate around the map.

Zoom. This tool is access through Zoom menu and allows you to move your view point closer or further from the selected region. Seven levels of magnification change are provided. Simply pull down the menu and select your level.

Drag. The drag tool allows you to slide your viewpoint around the map. To access this tool select Tool -> Drag. To drag the map, hold mouse-left-click and slide your mouse in the direction you want the map to go. When the left-click is released, the map will redraw at the new position. It may take a few seconds for the redraw operation to complete.

Note: When using the Drag tool, the Output Window will not recenter. The output selection remains at the position where the last Crop or manual region setting (Map -> Region) occurred.

Layer Visibility

Terrain data loaded into MapMaker is stored in different Layers. You can choose which layer or combination of layers you want presented in the Main Viewing Window. The ability to turn layers on/off can be a great help when trying to examine features of your terrain region. Which layers are active do not have any affect on the output terrain files created, they exist only to help you visualize your terrain.

Layers are accessed through the Layers menu. To turn a layer on or off, select that item in the Layers menu. A checkmark will appear next to all layers that are currently active.

Note: Elevation and Land Cover cannot be displayed at the same time.
