Using the Targetware Guncam

The Targetware engine comes with a simple guncam feature that allows you to quickly and easily make .avi format movies of your flights. The guncam can be activated with a simple start/stop key press, or it can be linked to the firing of your guns to create authentic-style gun camera footage.

Caution:  Making movies can use a great deal of your computer's available resources.  If you use too many resources, you will see a significant drop in game performance and possibly stuttering when recording.  Decrease the size (Height and Width) and/or the frames per second (FPS).  If you set the recording parameters too high you can completely lock up your system!

Default Movie Settings

Targetware will start recording the center 100 x 100 pixel screen area at a speed of 10 frames per second when the Keypad Enter key is pressed and stop when that key is pressed a second time.  The area, speed, and method of recording can be altered by making changes in Settings -> General -> Guncam.

Recording Movies

By default, recording is start/stop toggle.  To start recording,  press SHIFT+S.  To stop recording, press SHIFT+S again.

The method of recording can be changed to be a 'hold down,' so that Targetware only records as long as the record button is held down.  To set the record key as a 'hold down,' set key toggle = 0 in Settings -> General -> Guncam.

Creating Gun Camera Style Footage

If you would like to create gun camera style movies set Link to Guns = 1 in Settings -> General -> Guncam.  A movie will be recorded every time you fire your guns at the indicated screen area and frame rate.

Note:  You can record with both key press and gun camera methods.  However, if you are already recording normally, i.e., not firing, and then fire your guns, the movie will stop recording when you start firing your guns.  This is to prevent you from accidentally leaving your movie recorder on and then filling up your hard drive.

Saving Movies

Movies are automatically stored into the /user/screenshots directory.  They will be numbered sequentially so that new movies will not overwrite older ones.

Playback

Use any .avi file viewer to watch your movies.

Settings and File Locations

The movie settings are located in the Settings -> General -> Guncam section of the game interface. The default settings are listed here.

When enabled (1), movies will be recorded every time the trigger is pulled.
