In-Game Help System

The default Targetware user interface ships with a customizable help system that is available both in-flight, and when waiting "in the tower" before flight. Select Help from the In Game of In Flight menu to display the help screens.

Selecting one of the help subjects will display the information in the main help window. Below is Map help screen. Press ESC or click on on Close to dismiss the window.

Making Custom Help Screens

Two of the help subject areas are reserved for player customization. You can put any information you want: bomb-run checklist, torpedo-run parameters, pin-up girl, etc. Other players may also make custom help screens available for download and sharing. To create your custom help screens, you only need to be able to edit JPG format graphics, which virtually any paint program can do (GraphicsConverter, PaintShop Pro, PhotoShop, etc.). The help files are located in the Targetware/ui/help/ directory:

Locate the files named custom1.jpg and custom2.jpg in /data/ui/help/. Edit either or both of these files to create your custom help screen. The graphic you create must be 256x256, 512x512, or 1024x1024 size, in pixels. It must be in JPG format, and be named exactly as above. Once you have created new help JPGs, start up the game again, select help, and your custom help screens will be there.
