Keys, Controls, and Game Settings

You can customize your keymap assignments and joystick settings within the Targetware user interface. You can even change them during an online session. Click the Settings button on the main screen to go to the Settings menu.

General Settings

Several important game settings are governed by the General settings section.

The Login section is where your username and password are entered and stored.

The Game section controls various settings, such as which types of units are displayed, master volume, whether brakes are a toggle or a hold down, etc.

All of the movie recording settings are in the Guncam section. See Using the GunCam
Network controls your download options.

Video Settings

Your screen resolution and other graphic settings are controlled by the Video section.

In the Screen section, you can enter your desired resolution, color depth and similar preferences. After selecting your preferred Screen settings, you can give them effect by pressing the Reset Screen button at the bottom of the screen. Your monitor will then adjust to the selected resolution and color depth.

Graphics contains texture, detail, and terrain display settings as well as several Quality presets, which will manage many of the settings for you.

Controls Settings

You can choose to change key and device assignments for most of the game functions in the Controls section.

The Keys section controls a variety of functions such as screenshot, map, debug display, FPS counter, view mode, etc.
You can choose your Stick Sets keys.
Customize Crew position keys.
You can change your default chat and radio keys in the Chat section.
The Controls section governs things like the gear, flaps, brakes and the like. It also allows you to assign keys to fly with, but for those to operate, the yaw, pitch and roll settings in the Joystick section must be clear, because the Joystick section overrides any key setting.
In the Trim section, you can assign keys to manage the trim of your control surfaces.
All of the engine management controls such as mixture, RPMs, and cooling flaps, are found in the Engine section.
The Guns section allows you to configure multiple triggers and other things related to your guns.
Bombs, rockets, bomb bays and such are controlled in the Ordnance section.
The Views section allows you to tweak how your view keys work, and allows you to enable slew views and other features.
Assign keys to the different View Modes, such as external view, observer view, free view, et.c

Assigning Keyboard Functions

You can assign functions to keys through the Settings interface or by editting keyboard.txt in a text editor. First, select the category of function you wish to edit. The options in that category will be listed.

Click Edit . A dialogue box will pop up. The next key, or key combination that you press will entered into the field. Use your mouse to approve, cancel or clear in indicated key selection. If you cancel, the previous key mapped to the function will still be assigned.

That's it. The changes should be preserved.

Special Key Names

Most keys can simply be entered as they appear on the keyboard. For example, the "A" key on your keyboard would simply be "A" in the input.txt file. But some keys, such as the Spacebar and the Enter key, have specific codes they should be referred to as:

Tab key TAB
Enter/Return key ENTER
Esc key ESCAPE
Cursor keys UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT
Spacebar SPACE
Function keys F1, F2, F3, etc.
Numeric keypad keys PAD_ + key name
Control key CTRL
Shift key SHIFT
Alt/Option key ALT
