The last months were quite busy travelling all around the world for my RL job so I had not that much time for the hanoi project.

Here some preview shots to show that the project is not dead:

The seat and pilot is still missing, but otherwise ready to get some color of an artist... Rummy? Very Happy

MiG-17 'Fresco A' (small airbrakes , Klimov VK-1 engine without afterburner)
MiG-17F 'Fresco C' (Klimov VK-1F engine with aferburner, bigger airbrake)
MiG-17PF 'Fresco D' (all-weather fighter with Izumrud radar, 3rd 23mm cannon instead of the 37mm)
MiG-17PFU 'Fresco E' (with radar and K-5 (AA-1 'Alkali') air-to-air missiles, no cannons, was not used in vietnam)

btw: Anyone has some sources, pics, drawings of the MiG-17 cockpit and instruments?

Freaking awesome. This is the one mod I REALLY look forward to.

Are those missles or bombs on that MiG-17PFU?

The MiG-17 PFU was a variant with four first-generation Kaliningrad K-5 (NATO reporting name AA-1 'Alkali') air-to-air missiles. They were beam-riding, radar guided missiles, maximum of range 5km. They were only useable against bombers, in service exclusively for the soviet air force and for china. This variant was not used in the vietnam theatre. The missiles were alredy outdated at this time, newer AA-2 were used on the MiG-21. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaliningrad_K-5
I only made the model because I think it looks kind of cool Very Happy

The MiG-17 is one of the primary birds the team is working on at the moment... To my understanding, T:H will focus on the F-8 vs. MiG-17 fight until we can get some TW 0.65/LUA missiles for that incomplete F-4 model lying around in the closet.

I'm tackling the F-8 FM starting today... It still needs a cockpit and some texturing though.

EDIT: It appears that the MiG is still at the texture state as seen in the screenies above. So yes, we need close-ups.

The MiG-17 is still in this status. ( I am at moment working on the F-8 cockpit)

What I really could use are cockpit shots! There are not very much hi-res photos or diagrams of the cockpit and instruments of this plane! Actually of any russian plane!

Texture artists are always welccome!

There we go !
For a skinner the one without the paintjob should be helpful, shows the rivetlines.

Sorry, because of the tarnished cockpit glas i couldnt take any sufficient
shots of the insides, but i ll see if i can talk to the guys and have them open the cockpit for me (running out of time tho).
(I m sure i could buy my way into that cockpit, but i m not sure i can do that this stay-over)
