I hope someone can help, as this is causing me to grind to a halt.
My wireframes are missing or inconsistantly displayed.
I have "wireframes" checked in ortho and 3D and if I switch them on or off the skin switches on and off but not necessarily the wireframes. Interestingly, the wireframes show if that area of the model is brought into touch with the screen edge.

Image

Then I move the screen across and you see this...

Image

See how the other end is now showing?

I booted AC3D and then loaded a fusilage, I'm working on. At first all the wireframes were displayed in ortho views but I maximised top view and then zoomed slightly and the wireframes imediately vanished.

Image

Again you'll notice they show where the screen edge overlaps.

Any ideas guys?
Help please, this is driving me into fits of frustration. Crying or Very sad

Normally the wirefames disappear if you zoom in too close. You can do a "views" "reset all" and it will restore the views.

I'd suggest checking the scale of the item your making. I can look at the ac file for you and advise if you wish.

did you opt vertices and polys? It looks like the way you created the model was not right and when you optimized the model it saw all polys of the center fuse as bad and removed them. Selecting wireframe mode is just hitting W on the keyboard.

Thanks for replying, guys.
I've tried to simplify this test.
I started AC3D. Then reset settings to default. (should give 1metre grid and 0.1 snap grid?).
Then objects, create box at 1X 1Y 1Z
Set X on resize to 10. Clicked resize and that gave me a 10 x 1 x 1 object.
I created a rectangle and resized it be dragging the selection box, to make it larger than the first object.
I then used knife with the first two checkbox's ticked, to divide object 1, several times.

Up to this stage I was seeing wireframes.
Image

I ticked show Locked in 3D at both the Visability box (lower left) and the 3D drop down menu (top of screen).
Selected the rectangle and clicked Lock Selected in the visability window.

Image

Confusingly, for me, I see the results I expected in Side window but not Top Front or 3D.
I've tried to keep it as simple as possable to isolate the prob.

I'm not sure, but suspect this might have started with one of the recent plug-ins. I'd like to install a fresh copy on my desktop, to see how that behaves. Can I do that without shelling out for another license?
Thanks,

Sulky,

I have the same problem.

Uninstalling (regular uninstall, clean registry, delete all files...) and re-installing of AC3D has no effect on the files that exhibit the symptoms.

The problem started after following razor1's tutorial with the cylinder and the knife tool (pre July05 release) to work on a new a/c for TT (reason for the delay Vespa...).

The file opens properly in AC3D on a different computer that that never had the pre-July knife plugin.

I appears to be a DirectX drawing/clipping problem as the wireframe is visible when in contact with the view edges.

Hopefully AC3D or the knife plugin author will be able determine what the issue is.

Thanks for posting Henry.
I've suspeted it started around my first using Knife and you're correct I did use the first version.
Its a relief to know I'm not the only one.

OK, There's definately something wonky occuring for some people.
We've traced it to the Cut Object function of the plugin. We're still unsure
why its only affecting some 'puters. However that function is causing probs
within the Linux version as well. So, maybe its related.
Unfortunately the author cant reproduce the behaviour but I'm assisting with screenies and testing.
We hope to have good news soon. In the interim, not useing Cut away Object from the Knife tool is the workaround. Use Cut away object from the Surface drop down menu or the hotkey.

I'll point Andy to this tread but If I was you I would just go ahead and post the problem in the bug report area on www.ac3d.org so andy has it there then he can track down the problem ccause this is looking more like a bug.

Razer,
Thanks M8, it'd be good to be sure Andy was aware of the prob.
I posted a thread last week but some of the details have proven to be sightly inaccurate, since.
Dennis responded, so I took it to email.

Looks to be a memory prob.
Progress is being made.
